Muscat: According to Kaspersky research, employees in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) region believe that as bots become better at different tasks, there will still be fewer jobs for humans.

The majority of employees (78%) believe that bots should be widely used in various industries, however, many fear that bots will be hacked.
Today, robots are used in conjunction with industrial control systems and other information technologies to manipulate production processes, replacing manual labor, and improving efficiency, speed, quality, and performance.

Kaspersky conducted a study to find out what employees of manufacturing companies and other large organizations around the world think about the consequences of automation and the increased use of bots. The goal was to find out what employees think about the security of bots and automated systems in their companies. The survey included respondents from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt and South Africa.

Employees have reported an increase in the level of bots in their companies over the past two years. 36% of employees said that their organization is already using bots, and 41% of organizations plan to use them in the near future.

Research has shown that people expect job losses from robots. The better robots become at different tasks, the fewer jobs are left for humans. A majority of employees across the META region (92%) believe that robots will eventually replace humans in their industry. With the advancement of robots in all sectors of the market, people need to receive new knowledge and skills in order not to lose their jobs to robots. And they are ready to do so: among those who believe their jobs can be replaced by robots, the majority (71%) are willing to learn new skills or improve their existing skills and experience.

At the same time, many employees remain optimistic in light of robots taking jobs. They believe that robot adoption will make human roles safer and more intelligent, along with increasing production efficiency. 68% believe that enough new jobs will be created to counteract job losses to robots. More jobs will emerge for programmers, data scientists and engineers – these people will lead to the adoption of bots in the coming years.
Another important finding is that cybersecurity risks are increased due to botnets. The majority of respondents (90%) believe that bots can be hacked, and 65% know of such incidents in their company or other local businesses. Respondents are divided in their assessment of how botnets are protected: nearly half of employees in the META region (40%) believe that there are not enough cybersecurity measures in place to protect botnets in various industries.
