Bots help customers get online purchases

NEDRE VATS, Norway, November 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Today Auto shop It launches its latest innovation, PickUpPort™, a public-facing outlet that allows customers to shop online and receive their orders directly from the AutoStore system.

PickUpPort is an intuitive technology that does not require extensive application and training. When a customer places an order and chooses pickup from the store, the control function asks the AutoStore Robot to choose the baskets containing the products. The warehouse operator standardizes the order, and the order is stored in the AutoStore system. When the customer arrives at the store, the bot brings the container with the appropriate products to PickUpPort.

Attractive alternative to “the last mile”

New technology is a direct response to the growing demand for increased efficiency in the way customers receive products. Adding public facing outlets to stores can increase in-store purchases and enable retailers to provide a frictionless, multi-channel shopping experience for customers.

The technology has a user-friendly design. Since this is the first public-facing port of AutoStore, various security measures have been taken into account during product development. The PickUpPort is equipped with a warning label, safety bar, damper and stoppers.

“PickUpPort is safe and easy to use. It always locks up while waiting for the basket to reach the port, and an LED indicates when it’s ready to open. Security is paramount at the AutoStore,” Fernandez says.

PickUpPort is the fifth port module offered by AutoStore and will be available from November 15thThe tenth.

The AutoStore system consists of an aluminum grille, robots, boxes, outlets and a console. Stacked boxes are arranged in a grid. Robots ride on rails along the top of the grid, and retrieve boxes as needed. The containers are then delivered to a port, where warehouse operators are stationed to pick up or package the products, label them, pack and dispatch. The controller acts as the brain behind the entire process.
