Epson assists IPSi with launch of robotic print-and-apply label system

Epson IPSi helps launch an automated print and application ecosystem

As more companies see the need to speed up packaging and labeling, Epson has announced that its distributor partner, Integrated Productivity Systems (IPSi), has created an automated print and application system. Utilizing the Epson ColorWorks on-demand color label printer and Epson VT6L 6-Axis robot, IPSi helps companies add efficiency and cost savings to operations through an innovative and flexible system for printing high-quality color labels and applying them to their next label. .

Focused on helping small and medium-sized manufacturers and distributors who do not have the experience or resources to quickly design, develop and implement process improvements in their operations, IPSi saw an opportunity to combine the high-quality labels of a ColorWorks printer with Epson’s 6-axis color-providing robot and automation for businesses. Providing JM Automation Services, a full-service integrator and manufacturer of custom automated machines, IPSi has developed an automated print and application system to streamline product assembly and packaging as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“Businesses need to print high-quality color labels on demand – which is especially important for customization, individual marketing and sequencing as each label needs to be different,” says Rick Schilling, President, IPSi. “The ability to combine an Epson ColorWorks label printer with an Epson 6-Axis robot allows us to tackle even the most challenging applications of color label printing and application to all types of containers.”

The ColorWorks CW-C6000P and CW-C6500P offer color-on-demand labels 1 to 4 inches long and 1 to 8 inches wide, respectively, with a peel-and-present option. Industrial strength label printers come standard with I/O control ports for automated label application and the ability to integrate with other automated systems. Combined with 6-Axis Robot End of Arm Tools (EOAT), the combined solution provides businesses with unlimited possibilities for printing and applying color labels to flatbed containers, round containers, and everything in between.

“A color-on-demand label solution makes the most sense for companies that find themselves in situations where they need a unique label for each container,” says Andy Shears, Senior Director, Product, Brands, Epson America, Inc. A solution that demonstrates the power of full-color label printing and application automation for industrial manufacturing environments. “

The Epson VT6L is a full-featured, easy-to-use robot that delivers value without compromise. The all-in-one design with integrated control unit saves a lot of plant space, while the SlimLine body with built-in wrist rest allows access to hard-to-reach areas in confined spaces.

“Epson has made robotic automation easy for organizations looking for operational simplicity and flexibility where requirements can change quickly,” adds Scott Marcik, Group Product Manager, Epson Robots. Epson All-in-One 6-Axis robots are versatile, supporting a wide variety of applications in addition to labeling, from pick and place to dispense and more. With robots that are easy to program and operate and can be quickly integrated onto the warehouse floor within minutes, Epson helps in alleviating some concerns about automation.”

A print-and-app printer implementation and bot solution simplify label printing and application while streamlining label inventory to meet on-demand needs. This combined solution is a cost and time effective approach to minimizing errors in label design or changes in product or process that may result in wasted inventory. The solution is currently installed and in use with IPSi clients.
