Atlanta — December 5, 2022 — Governor Brian P. Kemp announced today that Becker Robotic Equipment, a global robotic cable and machinery manufacturer that specializes in individualized robotic equipment, will build a new manufacturing facility to house its North American headquarters in Canton. The new facility will save more than $30 million in investments and create 137 new jobs in Cherokee County.
“As the No. 1 country for business with a highly skilled workforce, reliable infrastructure, and strong business network, Georgia continues to attract global companies like Baker to our growing automotive industry,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “Last year alone, the auto industry created more than 16,000 jobs for hard-working Georgians across the state, and we will continue to build on that momentum. We are grateful for Baker’s decision to locate their North American headquarters in Georgia and look forward to their growing impact on the Peach State.”
Becker is headquartered in Dülmen, Germany and was established in 1993 with the aim of providing integrated automated accessories and systems, especially for the automotive industry.
“Investing in Georgia builds on our previous success in the state and enables us to deliver a new phase of growth for our high-tech manufacturing operations, which have been integrated into a mixed-use, campus-style development with beautiful homes and stunning recreational areas,” said Johan Bruckhoujsen, Becker Robotic Equipment Corp. “Georgia’s business environment, particularly in terms of e-mobility, has been crucial in this regard. The available workforce, business environment and support at all levels drove the decision to stay in the state.”
“We look forward to continuing our work with Cherokee County and the city of Canton, Georgia to develop Baker’s North American headquarters in line with our global footprint to serve our customers and communities,” Added Andries Broekhuijsen, Becker Robotic Equipment’s global headquarters in Germany.
Becker’s new North American headquarters and manufacturing facility will be in The Bluffs in Canton’s Technology Park. The facility is expected to consist of three adjacent buildings and will be designed with clean energy solutions, such as solar panels.
The company is looking to hire Sales and Application Engineers, Automotive Project Managers, Non-Automotive Project Managers, Inside Sales Support Personnel, Project Engineers, Office Administrators, Human Resources Specialists, Manufacturing Technicians, and Customer and Service Technicians. “Becker Robotics is the pinnacle of high-tech manufacturing, and they are exactly the kind of company we want to bring to Cherokee County. We are proud and honored to welcome them,” said Chairman Harry Johnson, Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.
“Canton is the perfect location for Becker Robotics’ North American headquarters, and we are honored to have such a global innovative partner with City and the Cherokee Economic Development Bureau as we continue to work together to align Canton’s true potential with our roadmap for success.” said Canton Mayor Bill Grant.
“Due to its thriving automotive and mobility ecosystem, Metro Atlanta is ideally suited for Baker’s new North American headquarters and manufacturing facility,” said Katie Kirkpatrick, president and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “Baker will certainly benefit from the cooperation between innovative companies and universities in the region, access to talent, and the already strong German business community. Congratulations to the Becker team and all the organizations that supported this decision.”
Project Director John Sober represented the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) Global Trade Team on this competitive project in partnership with the Cherokee County Development Authority, Georgia Quick Start, and Georgia EMC.
“German companies have been key partners in the growth of Georgia’s auto industry for years, and we’re excited that Becker will become a bigger part of Georgia’s story.” said GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson. “I had the opportunity to meet Baker in Germany, and I was struck by the company’s innovative spirit and collaborative approach that made it such a successful partner in Georgia. Congratulations to Cherokee County and all of our partners who supported this project.”
In fiscal year 2022, auto projects created nearly 16,000 new jobs across the state. Automotive companies in Georgia gain a competitive advantage from its advantageous location, extensive infrastructure for easy market access, highly skilled workforce and recognized business climate. Georgia has been an established center for automobile manufacturing since 1909, when the first automobile was assembled in the state. For more than a century, the country has encouraged collaboration and innovation, making the country a leader in developing and harnessing emerging technologies for the cutting-edge automotive and mobility industry.
The state of Georgia has had continuous representation in Europe since 1973. And in January 2020, Governor Brian Kemp led an economic development mission to Germany, officially opening the new and expanded Georgia office in Munich. The longstanding relationship between the country of Georgia and Germany is extensive. Germany is the country’s second largest partner for job creation of foreign direct investment in 2022.
