“That’s something we generally try to do: make something that feels right to us but is also as accessible as possible.”
– Taylor Sky
Were you surprised by the reaction to any tracks?
Georgia: I also think “Greatest Hits”. People could criticize it as a pastiche song and they didn’t. But we make an effort to make it fun, so that doesn’t happen. It’s not like it’s fear… is it?
Taylor: No, I think people are only interested in new sounds [we make] In our music, while very obviously there’s drums, piano, funky and things like that. But I think when Georgia sent me her demo, the chords she created were really special and interesting, so for me, that carries it. Maybe it’s just a different focus on that song for others.
Were you aware of the statement you first wanted to make?
GeorgiaI don’t think we approached it any differently than the EPs. We just set out to create a longer project, but there’s also a lot of weight that I personally put on debut albums which isn’t helpful because we were always going to do what we knew how to do. I don’t think Taylor was phased to be honest, which helped. Is that correct
Taylor: Yes, but I often think that the different approaches we work together to help. And who knows what you really think deep down; It obviously meant a lot to both of us but we also didn’t want to overthink it. And it was released and people saw it as a debut album, so it’s relatively important to get it right, but we haven’t made any changes to make it sound a certain way. We just put the songs together.
Aside from the release of this amazing album, what other moments will you remember from 2022?
Taylorkisa: This tour was [quite special]Because I find it very difficult to get around but I’m getting used to it and really enjoying being in America. We put up a few more items for sale while we were here and they all sold out instantly, something we’re still not very used to. It makes you think, where are we already? What can we do next? Which is very interesting to think about. We’re putting on the biggest shows we’ve ever played and there are places we’d like to play that now probably seem possible.
You will be playing virtually at Wembley next year blur! Have you mentally prepared for how this could happen?
Georgia: I’ve never seen a show there, so I don’t really know how big it is, but it’s probably a little stupidly big. But the fact that we play first will meet him.
Taylor: we grew up Gorillazand we actually did the Africa Express show with Damon a few years ago, and Blur reunited for two songs so that was exciting.
Does the reaction to this album make you want to be more ambitious next time?
Taylor: We mainly do live editing while we’re playing, so maybe that’s the thing [the reaction] is the most influential. We both love DJing a lot, and sometimes we try to approach live show a little bit like that and see what people like. Although we played straight a lot, the next two years will be a new level.
Georgia: I didn’t play guitar before we played these shows, so there’s still a lot of mastering that needs to be done, just getting comfortable on stage. Even though it’s electronic music, we can go back and change things from show to show like bands do, so we put a lot of energy into that.
And finally, what would a jockstrap birthday party involve?
Taylor: We’re going to perform two days before Christmas in Paris, so that’s going to be great. Georgia is likely to rise to Cornwall.
Georgiakisa: It would look like comfort to me.
Taylor: I’d be really drunk for five days in a row.
Both options are solid. Congratulations jockstrap and happy birthday!
