Lambert from Stephenville, TITEN in Dublin braced for strong seasons

ERATH COUNTY – Only two 11-player Texas High School football quarterbacks crossed 4,000 yards in 2021.

Their high schools are about 15 miles apart.

Stephenville’s Ryder Lambert and Dublin’s Chris Titen were among the top arms in the state a year ago, and are expected to be back again when the new season begins this week.

The defending Class 4A, Division One, yellow Lambert Jackets open their season at Midlothian Heritage on Friday. Black Teten is also on the road, with Fort Worth Christian.

Standing 6-foot-1, Lambert shot 4,275 yards and 52 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. He helped lead the Yellow Vests last year to a record 16-0.

In three fewer games, Teten scored 4,066 yards and 42 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11 quarterback led the Lions as they went three playoff rounds in Class 3A, Division Two, and finished 9-4 overall.

Erath County signal callers enter their senior years with confidence.

“It’s kind of nerve-wracking, but I think we’re feeling very pumped,” Titen said.

Lambert’s days behind the center began long before he was put on the pads: His first representatives came during elementary school flag football. Until then, Lambert knew this was where he wanted to play.

“It was the goal from the start,” Lambert said.

Lambert used flag football, Bob Warner Leagues, and middle school football to sharpen different areas of his game. He has regularly seen strides in movement, strength and other areas of his game during those years, thanks in large part to his discipline – which he considers to be his best quality.

“Working hard is what I’m working on,” Lambert said. “If you work hard it will pay off in the end.”
