Sensirion inside: All-in-one Grove environmental sensors SEN54 and SEN55 from Seeed Studio
Seeed Studio has launched all-in-one Grove environmental sensors that feature the new Sensirion SEN54 and SEN55 environment sensor nodes. Environmental sensors detect many indoor air quality parameters and are designed for HVAC and air quality applications.
Many people are unaware of the potential negative health effects of poor indoor air quality. Exposure to air pollution can lead to various short-term effects such as headaches, throat irritation, and long-term health issues such as respiratory illnesses. Since we spend about 80% of our lives indoors, it is important to know indoor air quality and reduce air pollution to ensure an optimal and safe environment for healthy living.
Grove’s All-In-One Environmental Sensors detect various indicators of pollution and can be used to monitor indoor air quality. The Grove Environmental Sensor SEN54 measures environmental parameters such as VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and particulates as well as humidity and temperature. In addition to these parameters, the Grove environmental sensor SEN55 also detects nitrogen oxides (NOx). The integrated ambient sensor combines 8 types of data signal output and is designed for HVAC and air quality applications.
“Sensirion provides a diverse set of data collection chipsets, enabling global developers to gain insights from data,” added Eric Ban, founder and CEO of Seeed Studio. “At Seeed Studio, we have been providing hardware solutions for the global IoT ecosystem since 2008. We are thrilled to apply new Sensirion technologies to our IoT units and devices. Together, we will enable global developers to efficiently build scalable IoT solutions and enable them to digitize the world.”
With a Grove cable, environmental sensors can be easily connected through a single interface with existing development platforms from Seeed Studio, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and many more. The single cable solution also allows device manufacturers for easy integration into applications, saving design efforts and assembly costs. To help developers get started with prototyping quickly, Seeed Studio offers a tutorial with documentation explaining how to use Grove’s all-in-one environmental sensors to connect to Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and STM32.
“We are proud of the strong relationship we have built with Seeed Studio over the past years. Seeed Studio development platforms are designed to aid experimentation and modeling with our innovative sensors in different applications, helping our customers reduce development efforts and speed up hardware design,” says Johannes Winkelmann, Experience Manager The developers at Sensirion.
