Leahy, Utah Mountain Point Medical Center, a family hospital in Steward, announced today that it has begun using a new surgical system to perform robotic-assisted knee revisions to improve patient outcomes. CORITM’s cutting-edge new surgical system will allow for increased accuracy and improved accuracy in knee replacement procedures while reducing costs for Steward’s patients. The procedures will be performed by Dr. Kevin Saiger, an orthopedic surgeon at MPMC, who is among a handful of surgeons in the United States and the only one in Utah with certification in robotic-assisted revision knee surgeries.
“I am excited to benefit from this new technology at Mountain Point Medical Center,” he said. Dr. Kevin Sagers. The CORITM surgical system provides greater accuracy and better results, which means that patients can recover faster and return to a normal life sooner. We are proud to continue to innovate at MPMC to ensure our patients receive the best possible care every day.”
The CORITM Surgical System does not require the preoperative CT scan used by other platforms, which helps lower cost and reduce radiation for patients. The platform also allows surgeons to use 3D modeling to develop unique surgical plans customized to patients’ anatomy. Doing this allows surgeons to perform the procedures more accurately than traditional knee replacement surgeries and helps patients keep more of their normal bone and ligaments.
In addition to performing primary (or first-time) robot-assisted knee replacements, the CORI surgical system is also the only currently FDA-approved system used to perform revision—or “re”—knee replacements. In cases where primary knee replacements need revision, the ability to create a 3D model of the knee with an accuracy of less than a millimeter helps surgeons re-create more balanced and safer knees for patients.
“The introduction of this state-of-the-art system is the latest example of Mountain Point Medical Center’s commitment to providing high-quality patient care to our community,” he said. Kent Lozel, President of Mountain Point Medical Center. “Improving outcomes and lowering costs for patients remains at the heart of our mission, and we are thrilled to be able to leverage Dr. Seiger’s unique experience as an orthopedic surgeon to do so using this exciting new FDA-approved technology.”
