Pune, India – October 18, 2022: Robotex India today announced its collaboration with BMC Software India Pvt. Ltd. (a subsidiary of BMC Software, Inc.) launching multiple initiatives towards strengthening the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education ecosystem in India.

Through the unique “Make Your First Robot” initiative, BMC Software aims to empower 250 female students in government schools in Pune with the emerging technology skills required to increase their employability and close the gender gap. This is one of the first programs of its kind launched in Maharashtra.

BMC India has also set up the first-of-its-kind “STEM Lab” at BT Sahani Navin Hind Secondary School, Zilla Parishad School in Pune to further enhance the ecosystem for students to acquire future STEM skills such as coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, application development, and Internet of Things (IoT) technology that enables them To pursue future opportunities in the digital world.

“We aim to train more than 2 million students by 2023 across India in employable skills such as coding, robotics and artificial intelligence,” said Payal Rajpal, Director of Robotex India. “The goal of our partnership with BMC is to help close the gender gap in STEM and prepare students from marginalized communities in rural India for the jobs of the future.”

Driven by transformative technology investments and the massive market for digitally connected individuals (expected to be around 560 million), the digital revolution is gaining momentum in India at a rapid pace. However, despite this progress, there has been significant gender disparity in terms of women pursuing STEM fields. This dichotomy is more prevalent for students from low-income families.

“The future must be ‘inclusive’. Providing opportunities to increase the number of women in technology will accelerate technological innovation and enhance the ability to serve the entire world,” Sakar Anand, President of BMC Software India. “Organisations, such as BMC, must do everything they can to improve the spread of STEM education among women.”
